February U.S. Holidays

February 2nd : Groundhog Day🤎

Why is Groundhog Day important?

Groundhog day is celebrated in the U.S and Canada. On February 2nd, if a Groundhog comes out of its hole and sees its shadow, it will go back into the hole and winter will go on for six more weeks.🕳 If the Groundhog does not see its shadow, then spring will come early.

The Groundhog will predict the weather. (These predictions are not always right. 笑)

February 14th : Valentine's Day❤️🌹

Short History📰
This holiday is also known as Saint Valentine's Day. It is celebrated in many countries around the world. It wasn't associated with romantic love until the Medieval Period. It is believed that the origin of Valentine's Day started in the Roman Empire under the ruling of Emperor Claudius II. During that time, marriage was banned. It is said that Saint Bishop Valentine would perform secret weddings for soldiers, so they could marry their loved ones.

In 1547, King Henry the VII of England officially declared February 14th a holiday.

Now, many people celebrate this day by exchanging gifts, flowers, cards, letters, and chocolates to express their love. People also have romantic meals in restaurants.

🍫Chocolate's are the most popular Valentine's day gift.

🌹Red roses symbolize love and romance they are very popular flowers to give.

Cupid💘
Cupid is one of the most popular symbols of Valentine's Day. He is a matchmaker. It was believed that his bow and arrows connected true lovers. In classical mythology, he was known as the God of Affection.

February 19th : Presidents' Day🇺🇸
On this day we honor those who have served as Presidents of the United States.
This is a holiday but, we don't do anything special on this day.

✨Honorary Holiday✨
Galentine's Day👯‍♀️ : Galentine's Day (Girls Valentine's Day) is an unofficial holiday in the U.S that can be celebrated any day between February 1st - February 14th. It is typically an all female occasion. Girls get together and celebrate their friendship with gifts, chocolates, and dinner.
